The ignition coil on an electric or gas powered scooter or motorcycle converts the low voltage from the battery into the high voltage needed to generate a spark in the engine's cylinder which ignites the fuel-air mixture. This spark that is produced by the ignition coil is then distributed to the spark plug enabling combustion which powers the engine.
